Lyfting Me Up

Onward and upward…

Sleeping in My Own Bed

Somewhere around day 33 of my most recent trek I said out loud, “I can’t wait to sleep in my own bed”!!! It did not disappoint. I love going on the road, but I love coming home even more. 34 days, six different beds, eight countries, and approximately 11,550 miles later, I sit here writing in my chair, after having a great shower in my own bathroom. I had not driven a car in that time, but I can still remember how. Yes Dorothy—“There is no place like home”.

I have already been asked three times, “What was your favorite place”? My answer—“All of it”. The eight days with our friends in Hasselt, Belgium was surely the highlight. My friendship with Paul and now his family, is one of those where time erases nothing. From the moment I spotted him on his cell phone looking the wrong way to find me, until our hundredth “goodbye”—my heart was full of laughter and gratitude. From 16 to 76 covers some time. Yes, we are both young boys trapped in an old men’s bodies. We talked again about how our year together set a trajectory for our lives that leaves us with no regrets. Paul Lecocq and family I love you!!! Being with you is like sleeping in my own bed. Monday we load in our car and drive to California for a 7th birthday. I know the way without a GPS…

That’s really all I have to say for this week. I’m off to my most comfy bed — and I still miss my Momma.

Onward and Upward,

Mark
